Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) by Tom T — 19 Jul 2017
Liked it. The upbeat, comic tones were good. Holland was great, if just a bit too whiny. Keaton chewed scenery all the way through, but avoided the over the top preformance of say, Willem Dafoe and Tommy Lee Jones in other films.
The insistence of Hollywood changing the genders and ethnicity of established characters goes too far in this movie. The character introduced as Peter's best friend is an exception. The character is new, and the actor is terrific, injecting comic relief and a narrative conscience for Peter.
The movie skewed too young for me, which brings up questions I'd rather not think about.
