Review of Spider-Man 3 (2007) by Jesses. — 18 Feb 2008
Cramming over twenty years of comic history into a single hour of a movie won't help with storyline or plot, but it'll definitely help sales. One of the main problems of the movie is that the storyline rushes and moves too fast.
Scenes skip around to the point where you have to be paying close attention to what's going on, or you'll miss important plot points. Having said that, I'll talk about individual processes.
Topher Grace's performance of Venom is less-than-spectacular. Venom is a character who's the pure essence of evil. He originally had a distorted, screech-like voice, but now it's only slightly deepened by Grace's.
The abundance of bad lines that Grace has don't help his performance, either. "I like being bad. It makes me happy." That was one of the lines that made the movie feel like a big, unimportant joke.
I did like the special effects of the Sandman and Thomas Hayden Church's performance. The parts of Venom could've been cut out to save for another movie and this would've been great. Weak subplots and overly-fast pacing put the third film as bad as Fantastic 4 : Rise of the Silver Surfer.
