Review of Spider-Man 3 (2007) by Nicholas F — 22 Jan 2014
A fantastic finale for one of my favorite superhero franchises. Spider-Man 3 was not well received when it was released and I can understand why, but that does not affect how I feel about it. Following the successes of Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, this movie does give the feeling of being a conclusion to the Spider-Man storyline.
A lot people complained about the three villians, but I liked them all. Naturally, Harry Osborn was going to take over the Green Goblin legacy and clash with Peter Parker and eventually figure out the truth about his father.
The Sandman and Venom were both well done, being played by great actors like Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace. I would have like to have seen more of Venom though in this movie. I also really liked the story of how Peter Parker allowed his ego to get the better of him, which was amplified when he donned the black symbiotic suit.
That just shows that not even superheroes are perfect and the everybody has flaws. Very good character development. It was quite a refreshing change to see Tobey Maguire play the arrogant and somewhat volatile side of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
The epic final battle was intense, emotional, and pulse-pounding. I am not afraid to say that a few tears were shed when Harry Osborn died, surrounded by his two closest friends. Very good performances by Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and James Franco and congratulations to Sam Raimi on seeing through with Spider-Man from his origins right to his finale.
