Review of Special (2006) by Glen S — 14 May 2010

This is one of the most intriguing movies I've seen in quite some time. The trailer had me expecting something lighthearted and quirky, certainly not the somber, thought-provoking piece that "Special" ended up being.

But misleading teasers aside, what we have here is a rather interesting film about the lengths to which people will go to pursue their dreams, and the consequences that result from going too far. It starts a little slowly, the editing could have used a bit of work, and I didn't find the ending to be entirely satisfying, but apart from those relatively minor flaws, "Special" is a surprisingly good film.

I'd give this movie a very high recommendation, just so long as you aren't too wrapped up in the expectations you might get from the trailer. It's not perfect, but it's well worth seeing.
