Review of Spartan (2004) by Jordan V — 10 Oct 2008
A great movie for anyone who doesn't like typical action movies, and prefers realism over sensationalized bull-shit. I've never seen one of David Mamet's films before, but I thoroughly enjoyed this film.
It's different compared to other films of the same vein. Some scenes were obviously rushed and it shows in the delivery of certain lines, but Val Kilmer does a great job for the most part, portraying a man-of-action in a very different light than what we're all used to seeing.
His character was the best part of the film, the plot was very exciting too, keeps you interested all the way through and it can be slow to start, but it does pick up speed and serves up an intense climax, though, the ending itself is a little on the shallow side of the satisfaction pool.
I suppose I'm a sucker for spy films, but this movie grabbed on to me and never let go. Here's hoping for a sequel.
