Review of Spartan (2004) by David S — 26 Mar 2017
From the great David Mamet who brought us such movies as "House of Games," "Heist," and "The Spanish Prisoner" comes another superb suspense-thriller that is filled with plenty of mystery and intrigue.
Mamet takes an unconventional approach by slowly revealing the story layer by layer so you learn the story at the same pace as its main character, which admittedly creates some initial confusion as the viewer isn't quite sure what is happening.
.. but that's what makes this film so great - you think the movie is going one direction and then another layer is suddenly peeled back and you find something else. Twists and turns abound in this slick, well-made thriller that even features a hypnotic score by Mark Isham that adds atmosphere to the wonderful script.
