Review of Spartacus (1960) by Jon B — 25 Mar 2009
One of the most fantastic period drama films that still remains a classic today. Douglass is awesome as Spartacus and Lawrence Oliver is vindictive, cold and a little creepy as Crassus. You can also tell from various scenes that Kubrick didn't have total control over the film, though in this case it's probably for the better.
I can't believe Peter Ustinov got an Academy Award for his role as Batiatus. He didn't do that much and he wasn't even there for the whole movie.
