Review of Space Buddies (2009) by Charlie S — 30 May 2011
Probably the only "Buddies" film I'll watch except the original.
PLOT:The air buddies are at it again when they hitch a ride on the school bus to the space center field trip and board a spaceship. Led by the bumbling leader of mission control (Bill Fagerbakke) and a ferret named Gravity (Amy Sedaris) they try and make their way back home while meeting a Russian cosmodog (Jason Earles), walking on the moon, and avoiding several other nasty tricks. It's a little TOO kiddie and out-of-this-world for a plot choice. I mean, letting dogs fly into space and walk on the moon?? Great for kids, but not really stable. It is executed as well as a cutesy-talking dog movie can get.
ACTING/VOICES:Bill Fagerbakke was pretty alrigt-stable but not excellent. Basically, he did his job. AMy Sedaris was purely meanish in here, or maybe just demanding. Jason Earles played his part as the Russian cosmodog pretty respectively. The other voices for the buddies were just typical.
SCORE:Over-inspiring. It simply just did its job. But the soundtrack DID include my favorite rendition of "Dancing In the Moonlight" by Alyson Stoner. Call me carzy, but this Disney channel star actually did well for a cover of a great old song.
EFFECTS:For what effects they did have, they were sucky.
OTHER CONTENT:The humor was purely for kids most of the time and barely even churned up a chuckle for me. But the Russian cosmonaut, played by Diedrich Bader, was a trip and made me laugh everytime-ESPECIALLY when he danced.
OVERALL,a sucky children's film with an unstable plot, mostly typical acting, over-inspiring score, sucky effects, and childish jokes. On the up, there was a funny Russian cosmonaut and a lovely rendition of "Dancing In the Moonlight".
