Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Jon A — 05 Mar 2008
It's 2022. Temperatures are scorching due to climate change; the earth is so polluted you can't grow enough food for everyone - eat stuff that looks like cardboard squares and called appetizing names like soylent red, yellow, green; the population explosion has led to overcrowding and a lack of housing; The rich live in air conditioned apartments, eat real food and have "furniture" (their own personal sex/slave girl - the rich are all heterosexual males, I guess).
Sure, the movie is cheesy but it's not mindless entertainment. Made me think about what kind of world our children will be living in -not only in 2022, but in 2042.
