Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Jordan P — 17 Apr 2018
The greenhouse effect has made America a roasting wasteland, which it is liable to do anyway according to historic climate shifts and this has led to food shortages and a loss of life as we know it. A degradation of values makes the filthy rich and the people in power able to do what they like, and the people starve because of monopolies in bed with the government, and because they live within totalitarian rule.
Women have the option to become property with absolutely no rights in exchange for amenities and survival. This film overloaded me with philosophy questions to the point where it may take me days to process it all.
The end result I came to is greed ruins everything. Fantastic film, one I'd recommend any day. Charlton Heston plays a sleazy cop well, but it's sad when a sleazy cop seems admirable in an even sleazier world.
