Review of Soylent Green (1973) by Michael S — 01 Nov 2008

Heston was at his coolest playing a cynical cop who is trying to solve a murder in an overpopulated future. What he uncovers along the way is all the more horrifying if you know nothing about this movie.

I will not add too much but if you have not seen this, like sci-fi, and have avoided of of the biggest spoilers in modern movies, I recommend this. Co-stars include Edward G. Robinson in his touching final role, the beautiful Leigh Taylor Young, and Chuck Connors as the main bad guy.

This movie touches of gender equality, overpopulation, the destruction of our environment, and assisted suicide. Some pretty heavy subject matter if you can buy into the concept. This is a classic flick from the days when sci-fi really made you think.
