Review of Southside with You (2016) by Lenard W — 05 Sep 2016
The future president takes a law firm associate to a community meeting in Chicago which one believes is a date and the other refuses to accept as a date. For anyone of a certain age, any first date movie will always be compared to "Before Sunrise.
" This film is not that one. It is rooted in inner city American life. The neighborhoods, the women at the center, the uphill battle with community leaders. Michelle is quickly opened up to the other world outside her door as well as we are.
I just wish it had given a more thorough opinion of how "Do the Right Thing" affected the Obamas.
