Review of Southpaw (2015) by Yash B — 27 Dec 2015
"Southpaw" follows a formula that we've seen multiple times. However, it handles it effectively with good performances and genuine emotional power. While it doesn't redefine the formula or genre of boxing movies in any way, it is a movie that leaves you cheering by the end of it.
The movie feels emotionally draining at times but the final act makes it all worthwhile. It's an entertaining underdog story that doesn't really bring anything new to the table, but it is a solid addition to movies of its type.
