Review of Southpaw (2015) by Matthew B — 30 Apr 2016
Fantastic film. It comes across as "Just another boxing movie" at first, but the story is actually a lot deeper. The genre will always suffer from clichés attached to it, and you can probably guess how it ends.
But the struggle to reclaim what you've lost, to keep fighting in the face of adversity is a really emotional one. As a boxer myself, there's a lot too relate to; the passion and pride to keep going when your life is a mess.
Very hard hitting, James Horner's soundtrack does the film so much justice, may he rest in peace.
