Southpaw doesn't try anything new to change the boxing genre. If you've seen any boxing movie ever than you'll most likely predict this movie from start to finish. However, this movie is so well directed and written it over comes the cliches.
While not an easy film to watch, it's 100% worth your time, the boxing scenes are handled excellently and the characters are all realized. And of course Jake Gyllenhaal is (as Eminem's song states) phenomenal.
