Review of Sorry to Bother You (2018) by Ginak — 17 Jul 2018
I can’t believe I’ve seen two movies I have scored a “10” this week – and this one in a megaplex! “Sorry to Bother You” is a satire that’s more in the savage spirit of “A Modest Proposal” by Jonathan Swift than the more polished and tamer “The Producers” by Mel Brooks.
Boots Riley’s film is very, very funny, but it is also very smart and takes on everything from telemarketing, which we all hate, to the darkest side of capitalism, which is a far bigger and more complex subject.
I have to see this film again because it goes by fast and furious, so I probably missed a lot. Lakeith Stanfield was excellent as was Armie Hammer – and the entire cast. This is the kind of film that you take a chance on because it gets really good reviews – and it turns out to be great.
