Review of Sophie's Choice (1982) by Kristi M — 03 Mar 2015
Sophie's Choice is a major sleeper- the first 45 minutes It seems like your typical Rom Com similar to Gatsby and I didn't get what the fuss was about. Then the last half of the movie is very well written, poignant and beautiful.
I'm in my early 30s and wasn't familiar with Meryl Streep's earlier movies and this is one of the absolute best performances I've ever seen. When she narrates it's like she really had those things happen to her and she has this look of pain in her eyes that almost makes you forget that it's not real.
The movie itself is mediocre but I mostly kept watching because of Meryl. So glad I found this one.
