Review of Sophie's Choice (1982) by Kristin B — 16 Apr 2015
Meryl Streep is a stand out in this otherwise uneven, oddly paced drama that interweaves her character's journey in post-WWII Brooklyn and her time in Auschwitz. Many of the current day scenes are oddly light, with the length of the flashbacks and "present day" scenes being unpredictable.
Steep's monologues describing her ultimate impossible choice are heart breaking, but her relationship with her American boyfriend who guilt her for surviving as a Catholic Pole, rather than a Jew, is unbearable.
