Review of Song of the South (1946) by Randy M — 04 Aug 2011
It's a real shame the controversy surrounding this film has led it to be forever thrust into obscurity. Does it take an easy route as far as explaining slavery goes? Of course. But is this film racist? Most certainly not.
At its core, this film is about using your imagination to overcome obstacles. It's also a great example of how stories teach us to better our lives.
The drama's fairly light, but it's enough. This is totally a Walt Disney film through and through, complete with all the themes the House of Mouse's animation department became famous for.
And on the animation side, there's some great character animation.
And the music's totally catchy. You can't help but be happy just listening to those songs!
