Review of Song of the South (1946) by Grace S — 12 Jun 2014
Song of the South means well and tries to deliver positive messages, but it also contains some negative stereotypes of African Americans which were prevalent at the time it was made. As for its artistic merits, the animated sequences and the music is great, as is James Baskett's performance as Uncle Remus.
But the main child character (Johnny) is extremely dull and the plot lacks tension.
