Review of Song of the South (1946) by David E — 24 Dec 2012
While I wouldn't consider it offensive, the film centers around a completely inaccurate portrayal of the master-slave relationship in the southern US. It depicts the masters as kind, understanding, and good friends with their slaves, who appear to simply be people who live on the master's land.
Beyond its racial issues, though, the film is fairly average. The live action sequences are simple and uneventful, and the animation, though entertaining, is not of the usual Disney quality of the time.
This is an interesting film for its historical significance, but not one which must be seen.
