Review of Son of a Gun (2014) by Erik D — 23 Jan 2016
At the beginning of the film, you are almost undoubtedly going to be fooled. Son Of A Gun will convince you that you're about to watch a really exciting and well written action thriller. One the opening half hour is over, you see what this movie is really going to be. A terribly written, lazy, and just stupid movie that Ewan McGregor should have never appeared in. He's too good for this film. Seriously, his scenes are the only good moments and sadly he's not in nearly enough of them.
The only redeeming quality outside of McGregor's performance was the soundtrack. It absolutely added to every scene with great music selections and better orchestrated score. Most of the action scenes were alright as well so I suppose there may have been a few redeeming qualities. None of that matters though, as the lead character in this film is the most annoying man/child/guy/whatever that you will ever see in a film. Every single scene involving him was stupid and ungodly irritating. So ya, I didn't like him. Had Ewan McGregor been the star, this could have been so much better.
