Review of Somewhere (2010) by Bonnie R — 07 Mar 2011
This was THE most BORING film I have ever seen in my entire life. Yes, it is about the ennui of being a star, and I guess Coppola wants us to actually empathize as we watch her long-drawn out scenes and static shots, so on that count it is brilliant.
And there are some nice details ("Johnny" standing on a small platform to raise his height when getting his photo taken with a co-star, how pathetically untalented so many of the people were - pole dancer, guitarist, his kid).
But that is not enough to forgive this film - it was so slow and dull, it makes European Art Films (of which I have seen many) look like non-stop action movies.
