Review of Somers Town (2008) by Mattias E — 17 Apr 2009
This lacks the edgy, visceral tone of This is England, and the touching innocence of A Room for Romeo Brass, though teasingly manages to reference the lot. Once the credits rolled, it wasn't a surprise to see that the film was funded in part by Eurostar, particularly considering the abrupt and implausible ending to the film, something which, as an obsessive pragmatist, I simply couldn't get behind.
I felt a little conned, but Meadows's ability to draw realistic and compelling performances from his cast made this one of the most enjoyable commercials I've ever seen.
