Review of Somers Town (2008) by Omar L — 25 Mar 2010
Somers Town is a short film (68 mins) about two young boys forming an unlikely friendship out of loneliness in England. The beginning of the friendship seems a bit forced and unnatural within the plot, but everything else falls into place in a true light shortly after.
The two boys who are probably 13 or 14 both share quite a few laughs, a little adventure, a first love with a friendly French girl, and a bottle of wine that leads to a drunken mess. This film is shot in black in white and it works quite nicely.
A wonderful montage concludes the film and brings it to a smooth ending. Director Shane Meadows is best known for â??This is Englandâ?? & â??Dead Manâ??s Shoesâ?? neither of which Iâ??ve seen, but will be sure to watch in the near future after watching this pleasant indie movie.
8/10 from me.
