Review of Some Like It Hot (1959) by Amraj D — 05 Oct 2010
Jerry: I'm a man!
Osgood: Well, nobody's perfect!
A classic movie, that wholly deserves its status as one the greatest comedy films of all time. Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon are brilliant, and really bring a sense of joy to an already joyful scenario. Full of witty one liners, and slapstick comedy, 'Some Like It Hot' excells in that it does not take itself too seriously. The plot is simple, but made complex through Wilder's ability to form believable relationships, be it between the two protagonists or that of Sugar (Monroe), who deserves a mention for her stunning performance and all round beautiful demeanour. It is hilarious yes, but it is also so much more than just a traditional comedy, the film is constantly light-hearted and a joy to watch. In a modern society where rom-coms are so mediocre, Wilder has created something that will last the ages, and continually blows all the others out of the water.
