Review of Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) by Amanda C — 06 Jan 2008
Christened by some as 'The Duckman's Revenge', 'Some Kind Of Wonderful' does indeed come across at first as a role reversal 'Pretty In Pink' with the ending that movie never got.
However upon closer inspection, 'Some Kind Of Wonderful' measures up favourably to the previous John Hughes outing (this would be the last of his 80's teen movies). The three leads excel in their roles of the romantically intertwined high schoolers and the writing feels incredibly real and heartfelt.
Top that off with a terrific 80's rock soundtrack and a beautifully crafted ending and you have a fitting conclusion to an era of exceptional teen angst dramas.
