Review of Some Came Running (1958) by Jason H — 03 Nov 2008
Some Came Running takes place just after the war, and we are presented with family division, drinking, gambling, repression, sexuality and the Playboy male. Many would think this would result in a good film, but the one emotion of Frank Sinatra kills the mood.
Dean Martin puts in a fantastic performance, as does the always wonderful Shirley MacLaine, but watching the film, we're supposed to see an emotional and distinct change in Dave (Sinatra), but it doesn't happen.
It is a shame, as the storyline is strong, but again has a rushed ending. Sloppy dialogue in places, but the story line and co-stars keep this going.
