Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Sergio M — 14 Jun 2018
Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, et all do a sufficiently decent job creating or otherwise recreating their characters. However, not one performance stands out.
The action in this film is robust enough to entertain but does not provoke further emotion because the stakes are within boundaries the audience already knows about from the get-go. The film does not go out of its way to tell an unexpected story.
The cinematography helps portray a more complex and gritty look at the world in Star Wars, but never does it go to levels Rian Johnson achieved with The Last Jedi.
Neither committing offense nor breaking new grounds, Solo: A Star Wars Story is the safest Star Wars movie to date, only entertaining enough to justify its existence. 3/5.
