Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Midas W — 29 May 2018
This sci-fi space western fantasy really hit the spot! Solo was an exhilarating and fun thrill ride for me and my girlfriend. Director Ron Howard did his homework and got the most out of his actors and script.
..and the nods to nostalgia and cool really made this movie feel like a breath of rich, fresh, satisfying air. Solo: A Star Wars Story was well paced, and really captured the elements, details and feel of the saga period well.
The characters were lively, interesting and developed enough, and there were plenty of new faces like Lady Proxima (voiced by the brilliant Linda Hunt), Beckett, L3-37 and many more. Lando (portrayed by Donald Glover) was perhaps the star of the movie and could've stole the show.
Alden Ehrenreich was comfortable and suave in his role of Han, capturing the best bits and making the character his own. The worlds captured in this well-balanced space adventure were gritty and real.
..and it's always refreshing to see the Empire at the ground level...especially at their recruiting center. For me the highlight of the movie was seeing the relationship and friendship between Chewie and Han initiated for the first time.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is full of proper timing and punch, and the effects and nods to history weren't overdone. This was easily a more satisfying film than The Last Jedi. Go see this movie with a date!
