Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Greg I — 31 May 2018
I wasn't sure what to expect, due to the trailers seeming to focus on everyone but Han Solo, but I was thoroughly impressed with this film. Alden Ehrenreich is perfectly cast and pulls off an amazing performance.
This is sort of like a heist film, but with a lot more action. And it does take a little while to get going, but I think that's typical for these Anthology films. You have to settle into the new situation and adjust your viewpoint.
But once it gets rolling, which is less than half an hour into it, it's nonstop fun, with plenty of humor and heart. It's fairly predictable, with twists that aren't too shocking, except for one part near the end that I honestly felt didn't make much sense.
But yeah, this is one where you just enjoy the ride. There were plenty of nods to previous films thematically and fan service-wise, but it still felt fresh.
