Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Lindsey H — 31 May 2018
I was actually a fan of this movie - it was enjoyable, light-hearted and a boatload of fun. Unfortunately, I cannot give it a score higher than a 3 out of 5 simply because of the downward trajectory of the producers, directors and even at times the cast of the Star Wars franchise at Disney.
They have disrespected their fans by putting out poor, off-key plots and characters and then claiming the only reason *anyone* wouldn't like these films is because of conservatism and bigotry. I have been a female, liberal-minded fan of Star Wars since a very young age.
Empire Strikes back was my first and favorite movie as a child. I know these characters as well as anyone. When you produce content which is not in line with existing characterizations, the rules of the Force, or the already established Star Wars universe, people are going to be upset.
Disney, get it together. If the only film you can get right is an origin story of a character established in the original trilogy, then you've got massive problems to deal with. If you want to write original stories for this universe, you have to try to actually understand it.
