80th attempt to post ( I wonder how many people "posted" a less than stellar review and didn't realize it didn't go thru) Changed to 2 1/2 stars because not accepting 2 stars. First off, my condolences to Ron Howard for getting saddled with this train wreck.

He probably saved it from being as bad as it could have been. More fault falls on the writers and original decision makers (ie, casting). SO credit to him. It's Better, sooo much better, than The Lost Jedi, but still not that good.

It's a backstory that dispels the myth (which was part of the original charm that is OT Han Solo) AND portrays him as an idealist who is selfless to the cause which kills his character arc from the Original Trilogy.

His turnaround at the end of STAR WARS coming to the rescue was transcendent and a big hurrah because he was a selfish scoundrel who didn't subscribe to causes, until that moment he comes out of "nowhere" to save the day.

Now that is broken, because of this movie. Overall the movie didn't excite me as a STAR WARS movie should/did. I didn't believe Alden Ehrenreich as Han, not too mention Harrison Ford is 6'1" and Alden is 5'9".

So when he is looking Emilia Clarke eye to eye, you just don't feel like you're watching Han. Han was an alpha male, this kid is pure beta. So no, Not my Han. Oh, and I can't forget that infuriating droid L3, and her ridiculous droid rights crusade.

SJW message strikes again. The people making these new movies seem to have forgotten that Star Wars was about escapism. This could've been a good popcorn movie, and with a better match to portray Han more believably, it would have felt more enjoyable watching a "younger" Han.

Oh, and drop the social messages. That was always Star Trek's pallet to paint from. Enough already. The Last Jedi put Star Wars in a coma on life support, and this one is the backhoe digging the grave.

Episode IX will probably be the end of Star Wars. The final stab in the back of the fandom. Et Tu Solo.
