Review of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) by Paul T — 28 Jun 2018
The fourth Star Wars film in four years, but this was the one where my excitement was at it's lowest. The drama with the directors was concerning and the trailers left me underwhelmed. Maybe it's because of my low expectations, but I did not hate this.
Except for one reveal, you are not going to get anything in-depth about Hans Solo's past or some big character-defining moment. This is a safe Star Wars adventure film and if that's all you want, you will enjoy it.
Nobody was ever going to live up to Harrison Ford, but Alden Ehrenreich was passable and I did not dislike him as much as I thought I would. Of course we got references to the other films, but there is one in particular I thought was fantastic.
Going into it, I felt this was nothing more than a cash grab and an unnecessary film to the saga. I still feel that way after watching it, but I did get more enjoyment out of it than I initially thought.
