Review of Solitary Man (2009) by Joe N — 26 Jun 2010
Great performance by Michael Douglas is the highlight here, but a really solid movie all around. He plays a man whose ego-driven self-centeredness eventually brings him down. There's not a lot of drama or judgment regarding his character ... it's merely presented and the moviegoers provide the evaluation of his character for themselves.
My main problem with the film is the impetus for the beginning of his downfall. I don't doubt this situation causes such things in real life, but it just didn't quite fit with this film in particular.
There's a great supporting cast and I felt Danny DeVito stood out especially. Probably not going to find this one playing in a whole lot of places, but it's worth searching out imho.
