3: Actors like Douglas don't seem to come around all that often. He's definitely Hollywood royalty. It's ridiculous how much he's beginning to remind me of his father, especially in some of this pictures scenes.
He's also beginning to remind me of John Wayne. I don't mean literally, but simply in terms of how he is developing as a actor over time and how his core character is changing. When I think of Douglas, I think of rich and successful men.
He has this character down pat, but he seems to be beginning to develop it further and take the next step. In this film, as I expect will be the case in Wall Street 2, he is a fallen businessman. It's a side of Douglas I don't recall seeing before, but when I see it I can't help but also think of The American President, Wall Street, The Game, Traffic, A Perfect Murder, Fatal Attraction, etc.
I certainly hope he continues down this path, as Wayne did. The cast is spectacular. I've always loved Louise Parker and I'm practically in love with Poots. It isn't a great film, but it hits on all cylinders and I'm sure will be rewarding for years to come.
