Review of Solitary Man (2009) by Dodd A — 11 Nov 2010
Did enjoy watching the frankness of the character evolve. I mean you can't get mad at him for being honest and entirely himself. But c'mon Mary Louise Parker is stick thin, over 40 or not! It was kind of creepy watching Douglas get it on with the young women though.
Was pretty depressing to watch someone try so hard but honestly get nowhere because he wasn't trying hard enough for the things that really mattered. People deal with aging and things changing in very different ways and this was a look at a man who felt ignored and could not accept the changes.
Very cynical character. Cynicism can help keep you stay in the real world but it can also hurt relationships with friends and family which he definitely discovered. He had to learn how to accept his "life diagnosis" and live accordingly.
This movie kept my attention the whole way through just not the most rivoting plot.
