Review of Soldier's Girl (2003) by Karlyn J — 29 Mar 2009
Ripped my effing heart out of my chest. One of the most emotionally involving films I've ever seen, based on a true story and beautifully acted by the leads. It's hard to discuss a film that you go into knowing how it will end and that it will devastate you, but still getting caught up in such a beautiful love story. I tried to watch it casually, just to see how they'd tell the tale, but I quickly found myself too involved, without any chance to stop caring about these people and hoping that what had already happened somehow just wouldn't. From a technical standpoint, the supporting actors weren't stellar, and it definitely had a HBO-Movie quality to the production. But the story itself and every moment Troy Garity and Lee Pace were on screen were beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Tragic, exhilarating, devastating. I loved it? I hated it? I hate everyone I know? I don't know. But I recommend it highly.
Rating: A-/B+.
