Review of Snowman (2015) by Donna . — 13 Jan 2008
There is just something about this film which I can't quite put my finger on...
It's a short, silent animation with a simple story of a boy who befriends a snowman he built one Christmas Eve. Together the duo get up to lots of fun and mischief, ending in a party in the clouds where they meet the one and only Santa Claus.
It's so much more than that though, for it is enjoyed by people of all ages, all over the world.
It captures the nostalgic magic and wonder of childhood and the innocence of being a child in an adult world. It's also a heartbreaking story.
Of love and loss and how sacred the bonds that we have are...
The animation is richly detailed, dreamy and breathtaking and the films only song Walking In The Air is both haunting and beautiful.
Overall a warm, bittersweet, enchanting and profoundly moving film.
