Review of Smiley Face (2007) by Tristan F — 04 Apr 2008
It's like watching Dude, Where's My Car, but directed by someone like Mike Mills or Miranda July. A one-joke movie about a waster actress who accidentally eats a batch of pot-stuffed cupcakes and has to successfully survive the day whilst massively stoned.
The idea is elevated by the clever script, Gregg Araki's wicked direction, and of course, Anna Farris giving one of the most sustained comic performances I've seen from a lead actress. What other film could make a cameo from Carrot Top into a moment of wonder for its blissed-out protagonist?
