Review of Smiley Face (2007) by David Ray G — 04 Mar 2009
I truly, whole-heartily abhor and hate Anna Faris. I think she's a talentless, uninteresting actress that has and will never make a decent film. And it was to my greatest annoyance to see that Gregg Araki -one of my most favorite directors- chose her to star in his film. A movie about marijuana that has Anna Faris starring in it would be the last choice I would ever make in a video store. I'd even pick Scooby Doo, but never that movie! Yet, I always know that a movie carrying Gregg Araki's signature at its worst is a good film. And the splendid director didn't fail me!
Smiley Face is a very originally outlined film, despite the fact that it is negotiating a quite familiar theme. Adam Brody and Danny Masterson were for me the apocalypses of this movie. It was so whatever, so random, so up and down -you really can't help but laughing. A really great comedy, which proves exactly that: give a good director the insanest of scripts and you have a comedy you can't stop laughing about.
