Review of Smiles of a Summer Night (1955) by Tim M — 28 Nov 2010
A rare Bergman film that doesn't make you put a gun in your mouth. Regardless, a brilliant, nigh-Shakespearean comedy. Some of the best dialogue I've ever heard (or read, as the case may be). This was before Bergman transitioned into his deeply existential phase, but there's obviously some of that here, as it always was and remained one of the primary themes in his work.
Yet another masterpiece.
