Review of Smiles of a Summer Night (1955) by Samuel S — 26 Mar 2007
Terrific film, One of Bergman's less serious films. It concerns the notions of young love and like his others concerning this theme plays with the conventions of the female protagonist. The light hearted narrative beings forth moments of laughter, sadness, empathy and quirkiness culminating into an almost parable ending.
It's good to see once in a while a excplicately nice resolution in a Bergman film. He'd be in an asylum now if he didn't hehe.
