Review of Smart People (2008) by Tea R — 28 Nov 2008
It's good, it's not great. i've seen this movie before. guy is such a jerk, wait until you meet a girl who is so much more better a person, soon guy starts to change a little and u're left with a little hope for the character by the end.
haden church is great as the brother coming to visit, but it's not a role he needs to really adapt to much, he's the cool pot smoking brother. here we have ellen page who is playing again, the wise cracking teenage character of juno.
just imagine if juno was EXTREMELY right wing and never got knocked up. oh and add that she's extremely smart, u'd have the equavalent of what page presents here. which is the film's biggest downfall, we've seen all of this before.
the story line, the pot smoking cool brother, page's schtick though of course she's a great actress, the a-hole who meets a nice girl who won't put up with it and forces a change. it's a victim of it's own lack of originality.
but still, for a re-tread, it's not a bad film, I just hoped for more.
