Review of Smart People (2008) by Private U — 23 May 2014
I had been wanting to see this movie for quite some time and was sincerely disappointed, it was, though, perhaps, the funniest boring movie I've ever seen. There are some great one-liners but the movie falls flat after that.
The characters are very one-dimensional and felt like they were all the same person. At first I thought this was just a situation of bad acting but found, on the contrary, that it was the writing that was bad and the acting was great.
All of these characters pull out, quite possibly, the most boring performance of their careers in order to pull off the vision that is this movie. Thomas Hadon Church's character was hilarious but unbelievable and erratic, Sarah Jessica Parker needs to start playing older characters as she is starting to look her age, and Ellen Page really needs to start exploring roles that don't require her to play the pretentius know-it-all because I think she has true potential.
