Review of Slow West (2015) by Skyler G — 29 Aug 2015
Slow West is short but oh so impressive. Set in Colorado in 1870 we follow Jay, a young man from Scotland who is searching for his love. He is brave but not prepared for the travails ahead. But he meets Silas, played brilliantly by Michael Fassbender, who guides him through.
This is a western but not a typical one. It is emotionally rich as well as dramatically exciting. It is magnificently shot, it was also filmed in New Zealand, and full of surprising moments and deft touches.
It didn't receive a cinema release in Sydney but it is better than 90% of films you will see this year.
