Review of Sleuth (1972) by A C — 02 Aug 2009
This is an actor's film for sure. For starters, it is ver obvious that it is based on a play, because that's the way the actors move around and talk. I want to say that I love this film. I love when two of the greatest actors from different generations confront eachother in such an amazing duel; a duel of real acting craft masters.
I was really thrilled by it; superb acting work. And, I have to say that Mr. Branagh does such a great job on this film, transporting the audiences in to the characters's world: a twisted, elegant and zero othodox world.
I also love the art direction. No matter what, this is a very elegant, classy film. Think Stay or Lost Souls for example; regardless of anything else, the film is simply elegant, and not only because of the art direction, but as a whole.
Cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos and set decorator Celia Bobak are amongst the very best in their fields; some of the best jobs that I've ever seen in modern cinema. Great achievement.
