Review of Slacker Uprising (2007) by Ned W — 07 Oct 2008
Obviously I like his general bespoke leftist propaganda-flicks, but this one is decidedly aimless. it's a road movie, following his campaign, and there are some great celebrity cameos, but the big problem is mike himself.
on the one hand he does none of his usual narration, clever scripting or spunky interviewing, and on the other he includes all the messianic self-aggrandizement that makes him unlikeable to so many. so a lose-lose in that department.
not that it's all crappy, and the whole online release for free thing is great. the thing is, if it had been a proper 'pay to see it' film it would have had to be a hell of a lot better than it is.
