The 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic characters in cinema: James Bond. After the very bad Quantum of Solace I was eager to see how this franchise would get back on track and perhaps pass the stellar Casino Royale or be like it. What do we get now? Skyfall. Daniel Craig still helms the role of James Bond and has Sam Mendes directing this time around. I might be a little nicer than I should be on this rating, but this is James Bond were talking about here. The action, acting, story, and villain are all drastically improved. Skyfall is a gorgeous movie to look at with beautiful cinematography and excellent use of locations like Macau and Shanghai. A nice score and entertaining action also helps. The story is sort of simplistic showing some Dark Knight elements. It's more of a revenge movie and personal journey for Bond. The tone is really inconsistent also. Daniel Craig and the rest of the cast are really great in their roles. I can't say if Craig is the best Bond ever, but he sure has embodied the role since his first outing. The supporting cast consists of Judie Dench has M with more screen time, the one and only Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw. Oh then the Bond girl Berence Marlohe who looks all pretty for about 10 minutes tops. Now the villain. Javier Bardem's character is what elevates the movie. He's flamboyant, weird, funny, and overall scary. Definitely the best Bond villain in a long time. Skyfall is a good Bond flick and it's better than the last one. Missing the wow factor and the emotional connection.
