Review of Six Degrees of Separation (1993) by Patrick G — 05 Mar 2009
You get the distinct impression that this film is based on a play as there are long moments with the cast sitting around talking. This gives the likes of Will Smith, Stockard Channing and Donald Sutherland the chance to really flex their acting muscles.
Smith in particular is very good here as a young conman who windles his way into the lives of several wealthy couples by claiming to be the son of Sidney Poitier and offering them parts in a film version of Cats.
The script is very sharp and witty and is the films big strength and the performances from the three main leads are superb. The open ended conclusion leaves many unanswered questions though this is a very watchable film.
